Cave monastery complex Vardzia in Georgia


Georgia is reach with different cave complexes like - Uplistsikhe, David Gareja, Vardzia, Vanis Kvabebi, and more, less known ones. Cave cities and monasteries were usual for early middle ages Anatolia and Middle East, so Georgia had great cultural influence from this regions and no wonder that this type of complexes became popular here.

One of the most important monastery complex - Vardzia is located in river Mtkvari gorge, near Turkish border. On the other side of the river is another complex - Vanis Kvabebi, which is less popular and older then Vardzia.
